Alona Lebedieva’s Aurum Charitable Foundation has provided support to the doctors of the Comprehensive Neuromonitoring and Pediatric Sleep Laboratory at the National Children’s Specialized Hospital “Okhmatdyt,” helping organize their internship at the leading pediatric hospital Sant Joan de Déu in Barcelona.
The doctors of Okhmatdyt reached out to the Foundation for assistance, as professional development is critically important under current conditions, and financing such a trip required additional support. The Foundation backed this important initiative, and thanks to the internship in Barcelona, the medical specialists were able to gain advanced expertise in treating sleep and breathing disorders in children, which will contribute to improving healthcare quality in Ukraine.
The internship lasted two weeks and involved a pediatric anesthesiologist—the head of the laboratory—and a pediatrician. Roman Shevchenko, Head of the Comprehensive Neuromonitoring and Pediatric Sleep Laboratory at the Department for Intensive Care of Extremely Premature Infants at Okhmatdyt, shared the results:
“We studied diagnostic and treatment algorithms for pediatric sleep disorders, the specifics of sleep and its correction in children with autism spectrum disorders, and respiratory management for patients requiring long-term home ventilation. All the knowledge and skills we acquired will be implemented in the daily work of the sleep laboratory.”
Supporting medical professionals is a priority for the Foundation, as every contribution to the development of healthcare workers is an investment in children’s health. The Foundation’s founder, Alona Lebedieva, emphasizes:
“Life presents us with many challenges, but despite the circumstances, we must always remain true to our values. For me, children are the most precious thing in life. I believe we must strive to provide the best for our children — better healthcare, better education — we must fight for them and prevail. I am truly glad that my team and I can contribute to such an important and ambitious project that the Okhmatdyt medical staff are implementing today.”
The Aurum Foundation continues to support Ukrainian doctors by providing them with opportunities for professional development at the international level, which in turn helps ensure the highest quality of medical care for children in Ukraine.Additional information:
The Pediatric Sleep Laboratory at Okhmatdyt is the first institution in Ukraine specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep and respiratory disorders in children. The department is equipped with modern tools for sleep studies, including polysomnography, and provides individualized treatment for patients aged 0 to 18. The opening of the laboratory became possible thanks to the support of Alona Lebedieva’s Aurum Charitable Foundation, which funded the purchase of all necessary equipment.
